Jane Austen’s Life, Times and Works

October 21, 2017 @ 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM PDT

Following a recap and sharing of experiences about the AGM earlier this month, San Diego Region member Dottie Marron will give her excellent and concise talk on Jane Austen’s life, times, and works. (This is the same presentation she gave which she gave to attendees at the Coronado Literary Society last March.)

We will also be discussing Carol Shields’ short, but excellent biography of Jane Austen, entitled “Jane Austen, a Life.” While there are many biographies of Jane Austen, this one is written by a Pulitzer prize winning author who writes delightfully and with the understanding of a fiction writer about Jane Austen. As one reviewer noted, “Carol Shields has created a fully dimensional portrait of Austen from a record that is sporadic and fragmented.”

As usual, we will make hot water for tea and have some tea bags and cups available. If you would like to bring something to eat to share with others, that would be lovely.
